Three TTU K-12 Alumni Earn Scholarships to Texas Tech University

Graduating seniors applying to colleges and universities know that higher education is not inexpensive. That is why TTU K-12 offers competitive scholarship opportunities to its high school graduates who are planning to attend Texas Tech University. Three of these scholarships were awarded recently.

“We have two types of competitive scholarships for our TTU K-12 graduates," said Jared Lay, director of Recruitment and International Partnerships for the Division of eLearning & Academic Partnerships. “We have one application for first-time college students, and we have one for current TTU or transfer students – TTU K-12 grads who are already attending here or at another university and wish to transfer to Texas Tech.”

The 2022-2023 recipients are Lauren Thompson and João Guilherme, both Class of 2022; and Nicholas Alexander, Class of 2020.

Thompson attended the TTU K-12 on-site commencement ceremony in May. She is planning to major in a communication field, with a specific major still to be decided. She speaks Spanish and wants to continue with that, but also learn another language. Her goal is to study abroad, as Thompson loves learning about other cultures. 

Guilherme graduated in July from Instituto GayLussac in Nitero, Brazil, with two concurrent diplomas – one from his traditional local school and one for his American curriculum through TTU K-12. He will pursue an engineering degree in the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech.

When Alexander graduated from Texas Tech High School in 2020, he planned to pursue math and computer programming. He also said taking high school through TTU K-12 gave him the opportunity of a lifetime to “attend a college as good as Texas Tech for an affordable price.” TTU K-12 graduates also qualify to receive in-state tuition.
